Shane writes an AgileBI series called “3 AgileBI Things” published on LinkedIN Pulse. This article below is a copy of “3. AgileBI Things – 2017-03-05“. Shane also writes on AgileBI concepts at AgileBI Guru.
1. T-Skills and the death of the BA (or a massive change anyway)
One of the many signals you are working in an organisation or on a project with people that are all waterfall is when they talk about getting “the BA” to write up some “requirements”.
Every time I sit in a “meeting” and start at FR001 to be followed by Should, Could, Would, well you can guess.
However, I often find that traditional BA’s that have a technical background provide some of the best t-skills on a team, typically being able to facilitate sessions, build awesome visualisations and content not to mention produce the right documentation that an AgileBI process should produce.
Of course, Scott Ambler has already provided his thoughts on the role a BA in Agile (in 2012 no less)
No role in DAD for an Analyst?
2. Agile Uprising
Finding time to meet people that are on an Agile journey like you is often difficult, in fact almost as hard as finding people that are on an Agile journey like you.
Andy Bacon has been tweeting links to the Agile Uprising Coalition lately and it looks like a great community to discuss Agile offline when you have time.
Here is just one example of a great conversation on the site.
Thoughts on Scrum-ban Approach?
3. BICC is Dead?
A few years ago the Business Intelligence Competency Center (BICC) was meant to be the saviour of BI (and then came along Big Data ….)
But a bit like Data Governance the majority of the BICC attempts I have seen were all talk and no action.
Timo Elliot has some interesting thoughts on BICC’s in the modern BI world.
